A sustained lean muscle building program involves a combination of proper protein intake with a complete muscle training program. To get the required amount of energy for your workout you need to consume large amount of calories. To enhance the muscle gain program the right combination of foods is required.
Carbohydrates as source of energy
Traditionally carbohydrates are considered as a rich source of energy. This source of energy is stored as glycogen in the muscles. It is used as energy source in short intense workouts. If your workout routine involves long workout intervals your body would require more glycogen.
Advantages of using carbohydrates as energy source
Carbohydrates quickly convert into energy so they provide quick energy for short and intense workouts. However if carbohydrates are not immediately converted into energy, they convert into fats and get stored as fat in the body. It is important to consume the right kind of carbohydrates. According to recent research if you consume large amount of simple carbohydrates it may cause surges in blood sugar levels. This also causes insulin release. Which in turn may result in increased appetite and increased levels of fat storage. Complex carbohydrates on the other hand convert into energy slowly as they take a longer time to get broken down and digested.
Protein as muscle builder
Half of human body’s dry weight is made of proteins. Proteins once digested release amino acids. These make new proteins in the body which release hormones like adrenalin or are used as a source of energy. Many athletes use proteins after vigorous exercise. Proteins rebuild muscle tissue. As per research 10 to 35% of your calorie intake should be from proteins.
Protein supplements for muscle builders
Whey protein which is derived from milk protein is a good source of protein. However unlike milk protein which contains like lactose or fats whey protein does not contain this. It is one of the best proteins available in the market.
Casein protein, is also a derivative of milk protein and has an excellent amino acid profile. It supplies body with amino acids. Casein protein gets digested slowly so, it is good for using as a snack or protein shake. This protein enters the blood stream slowly it does not have much impact on protein synthesis. Casein protein is a great way to supplement your whole food diet. It provides all the proteins and amino acids you require .
